Twitter Needs A Platform

Twitter has a decent API and so many applications have been built using the API but all of them are outside of the Twitter website. I think Twitter needs to launch a platform just like Facebook so that developers can build interesting applications onto Twitter - example includes photo-sharing, groups, events, classified / marketplace etc. This will definitely increase engagement for Twitter users on their website and they can potentially use this platform to start monetizing their service. They need to launch this soon, otherwise other websites (Pownce, Plurk) will do so and beat them to their game.
